A Legendary Spotlight: Honoring Osa Johnson’s Story

How one widow’s resilience inspired a journey from Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge to the pages of our book and Widow Life!

🎉 Exciting news! Our incredible Modern Widows Club® book- Legendary Widows: Stories of Legacy is being featured this holiday season at the Osa’s Ark Safari Museum Bookstore in Chanute, KS!

My connection to this story began when I first discovered Martin and Osa Johnson’s extraordinary love story at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge. There, the Sunset Overlook Museum beautifully showcases their groundbreaking nature filming, African-inspired furniture, captivating images, and artifacts—all of which inspired the theme for Disney’s Animal Kingdom Park. As a longtime fan of *The Lion King*, I was fascinated to learn that Simba was inspired by a real lion cub the Johnsons filmed in 1928. This discovery made their legacy even more meaningful to me. 🦁✨

Feeling deeply moved, I made a trip to Kansas with longtime friends from Kansas City (2 hour trip by car) to visit the museum, meet the curator and delve deeper into their lives.

Osa’s journey of resilience after losing Martin to a tragic plane crash—one she miraculously survived—left an unforgettable impression on me. Her legendary widowhood adventure became such an inspiration that I wrote about her in our book.

This is a full-circle moment, and I couldn’t be more thrilled to share her story alongside others in this powerful collection. 💛 Our Legendary Widows: Stories of Legacy makes an inspiring gift this holiday season!
