#Florida widowed persons total 1.17M and comprises 14% of total population. Widows are 11% and widowers are 3%.
Florida is ranked #4 in the United States for the most widowed persons and the United States is ranked #3 for highest widowed in the world.
You would think with all these statistics, that Florida would be supporting this amount of widowed persons in some way, especially after a widow making pandemic, where more men died than women in the age range of being married.
That got me to thinking, and so I went to Guidestar.org to look up how many registered 501c3 nonprofits are active under the search term “widows”.
I found there were 163. Yet, only 62 were active with any funding recorded. There were 101 inactive with no funding.
So, how can they be supportive without funding? They can’t.
Of the 62 that were active, the breakdown came to this:
Global 23
Military 19
Civilian 20 (5 religious: 3 Christian, 1 Jewish, 1 Muslim)
For the whole state.
